Michigan Tech University contracted Moyle to renovate thirty four (34) restrooms in the East McNair Dormitory with the extremely short deadline of completing all work during the summer months and having the building ready for occupancy to start the fall semester. Work included extensive structural renovations and shoring of the existing building while crews hauled concrete and masonry units to work areas. Utility shafts were opened to replace existing plumbing and HVAC systems which had reached their lifespan. Finishes and fixtures in the existing restrooms were completely demolished and replaced with new low maintenance options including seventy two (72) custom showers built on-site by Moyle. As an added bonus to the scope of the project, Moyle donated the labor and materials to rebuild Michigan Tech’s aging sauna, an important feature of our local culture.
The project was completed one (1) week ahead of schedule, giving Michigan Tech’s staff adequate opportunity to prepare the building for the arrival of their incoming students.
